Integrative Yoga Therapy

What Is Integrative Yoga Therapy?

Yoga therapy is an emerging healthcare profession that applies the practices and philosophy of yoga to support various mental, emotional, and physical health conditions. Integrative Yoga Therapy (IYT) with Kim goes further, weaving in a broad range of psychotherapeutic frameworks to offer truly whole-person care.

IYT sessions look more like a therapy session than a yoga class, though yoga practices may organically emerge as part of the work, depending on your preferences, needs, and goals.

About Kim Deshaies

Kim is a certified Yoga Therapist and current student in the world’s first graduate level program in Integrative Yoga Psychotherapy, a rigorous training that integrates the full scope of yoga therapy with a person-centered, neurodevelopmentally informed model of psychotherapy. Kim’s training spans a wide range of therapeutic approaches including somatic therapies, depth work, trauma-informed care, parts work, attachment theory, spiritual counselling and more.

  • Sessions are tailored to the individual. Rather than following a fixed protocol, Kim meets clients where they are, follows what naturally arises in the therapy session, and draws on a wide toolkit of practices and therapeutic frameworks as needed. A session might involve conversation, breathwork, gentle movement, guided meditation, deep rest, somatic awareness practices, or self-inquiry. Often a combination of talking and body based practices relevant to the individual.

  • IYT is well-suited for people navigating:

    • Anxiety, burnout, chronic stress

    • Trauma and its effects on the body and nervous system

    • Grief and loss

    • Difficulty with boundaries or sense of self

    • Sleep or digestive issues

      • Psychosomatic or persistent pain conditions, chronic illness

    • A desire to reconnect with Self, the body, or sense of meaning and purpose

    • Spiritual or energetic experiences that need integrating

    • General mental health and emotional wellbeing

IYT’s non-pathologizing approach looks for the wisdom behind symptoms - exploring what unmet needs or unresolved patterns might be at play, and finding new ways to integrate those experiences.

  • I generally recommend weekly sessions at the beginning of our work together, and then there’s always the option to switch to biweekly or as needed once we’ve established a foundation for our work.

Sessions are available at Serenity Yoga or via Telehealth, per client preference

    • Sessions are 75 minutes

    • Investment: $125 per session

    • Packages available: $650 for 6 sessions

A Note on Scope

Kim works as an Integrative Yoga Therapist, not as a licensed psychotherapist. She does not offer diagnoses, or prescribe medication. If a client’s needs exceed the scope of IYT, she will communicate this and support appropriate referrals where possible. For some health conditions, IYT works best alongside existing medical treatments and/or as a somatic therapy alongside existing psychotherapeutic work.
