Empower the body and mind in this playful and strength-building arm balance workshop. You will:
See the world from a new perspective
Gain confidence by confronting fear and trying something new
Improve physical strength as you find lightness in your practice
Explore (safely) pushing through fear and becoming ‘comfortable being uncomfortable’
And, maybe most importantly, have some fun! No doubt, arm balancing can be intimidating. If you are at all curious about adding or expanding an arm balance practice, this playground is for you. In an environment of non-judgment, curiosity, exploration and play, and guided by a yoga practitioner with over 20 years of experience practicing arm balances, you will learn:
strength building exercises to prepare the body for arm balancing
modifications to support you as your progress on your journey
ways to continue evolving your arm balance practice (be it existing or newly introduced)
Arm balances we may explore: (depending on group interest and time)
Crow (Bakasana)
Side crow (Parsva Bakasana)
Flying splits (Eka Pada Koundinyasana II)
Firefly (Titivasana)
Handstand
And any other poses you are interested in learning!
This workshop will include a short flow to strengthen, enliven and warm-up the body, followed by instruction and demonstration of each pose. Students will have time to play and ask questions. We will end with resting poses and relaxation, to maintain balance and calm in the body and mind.
Come challenge yourself on the mat, so that you can become the most confident and balanced version of yourself off the mat. All levels of practice are welcome.
